Frequently Asked Questions

Looking for more information about the new Oishei Outpatient Center, or the move in general? Explore some of our most frequently asked questions.

The current location of Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo (WCHOB) provides world-class care, but the facility is landlocked by its residential neighborhood, and its 125-year infrastructure is past its efficient effective age.

Coupling those factors with the emerging growth of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and the relocation of the University at Buffalo Medical School resulted in the Physician Strategic Planning Committee (PSPC) identifying the preferred location of the future hospital at the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus site, less than two miles away.

WCHOB is part of a regional not for profit system, Kaleida Health. Kaleida Health has played an integral role in the creation of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, which has created an environment of collaboration among the University at Buffalo, Roswell Park Cancer Institute and several other centers of excellence. WCHOB presently remains a stranded asset isolated from the medical campus with the pressing need to consolidate infrastructure, collaborate with campus partners and be connected to the many resources on campus.

Outpatient care describes medical care or treatment that does not require an overnight stay in a hospital or medical facility. Outpatient care may be administered in a medical office or a hospital, but most commonly, it is provided in a medical office or outpatient surgery center.

There is underground parking available via an entrance on High Street. Please remember to bring your ticket with you for payment inside the lobby.

The emergency department will move with the inpatient hospital in November 2017.

Inpatient care is the care of patients whose condition requires admission to a hospital.

The Oishei Children's Hospital is on schedule to open in November 2017.

The Oishei Children's Outpatient Center is located at the Conventus Building at 1001 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14203.

This initiative will ensure the best and brightest doctors, the most advanced technology and programs, extensive research, dedicated and compassionate staff, and the utmost attention to patient and family-centered care for our children in Buffalo and Western New York. Most importantly, it positions us to be recognized as the best comprehensive hospital for children and mothers in the nation.
